The Highway Technician Senior for the Bridges and Structures Bureau will work in a variety of bridge inspection capacities within the Bureau, including:
Assists bridge inspection teams in conducting bridge inspections that conform to the National Bridge Inspection Standards by operating an underbridge access unit. This underbridge access unit is a complex/ specialized piece of equipment commonly referred to as a “snooper”, which provides the means for the six statewide inspection teams and six District Bridge Repair Crews to access/inspect various elements of a bridge.
The person selected must be able to assist the inspectors in the inspection of bridges and collection/assembly/ processing of bridge condition data obtained during the inspections, as needed.
Operate the truck/master controls of the snooper, while the inspectors or repair crews are in the “bucket” operating the boom controls.
Maintain the “snooper” by performing routine maintenance/safety related activities and scheduling it for periodic safety inspections at the DOT’s facilities and by the manufacturer.
In addition, the incumbent may be asked to operate snow removal equipment when maintenance garages need such assistance, which is primarily during significant storms.
